Raita is a side dish prepared with dahi (yogurt/curd) together with raw or cooked vegetables. Raita is served as a side dish to be eaten with main course dishes like spicy curries, veg.biryani, pulao, non-veg biryani and non-vegetarian dishes.
Raita has a cooling effect to contrast with spicy curries, biryani or pulao. There are many variations in preparing different raita. Today I am posting Onion Raita which is very simple and quick to prepare-
Thick curd 500 ml
Green chillies (chopped) 2
Mint leaves (chopped) 1 tsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Black pepper powder ½ tsp
Red chilli powder ½ tsp
Salt to taste
Procedure for preparing Onion Raita:
- Peel, wash and cut onions into thin long slices.
- Beat the curd with salt, black pepper powder, red chilli powder, cumin seeds and chopped green chillies and then mix onion slices and chopped mint leaves in it.
Tasty and cool Onion Raita is ready. Serve it cool.
