Falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern dish which is popular across the globe. Falafel is a delicious, crispy and spicy recipe made from coarsely ground chickpeas, herbs and spices. Falafel is crispy from outside and soft from inside. Falafel can be shaped into balls or patties and fried in hot oil or baked.
Ingredients:
Chickpeas 1 cup
Onions 1 cup
Garlic 12
Coriander leaves 1 cup
Coriander powder 1 ½ tsp
Red chili powder 1 ½ tsp
Cumin powder 1 ½ tsp
Black pepper powder 1 ½ tsp
Maida/ All purpose flour 1 ½ tbsp
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying
Method:
- Soak chickpeas overnight.
- Grind together chickpeas, onions, garlic, coriander leaves, coriander powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder and salt coarsely.
- Do not use water while grinding.
- In a bowl add coarsely ground mixture and add to it all- purpose flour and mix well.
- Make small balls out of the mixture.
- Meanwhile heat oil in a pan for deep frying, when the oil is hot enough reduce the flame to low medium and add small ball and deep fry the balls until golden brown. Drain them on kitchen paper.
Delicious, crispy and spicy Falafel is ready to be served. Serve it with Mint Curd Chutney.
Note:
- Use dry chickpeas.
- The mixture should be coarsely ground.
- If the balls break than you may process it a bit by adding little more all-purpose flour.
