HEALTHY BHEL PURI CHAAT – CHILDREN`S DAY SPECIAL RECIPE

Bhel Puri is a simple instant chaat that is tasty, spicy, sour and easy to prepare using puffed rice, fresh vegetables and chutney.

There are various variations one can use for preparing Bhel Puri Chaat.

Today I am posting Bhel Puri Chaat which is one of the favorite chaat among the elder and kids alike. Children enjoy this chaat. On the eve of Children`s Day i.e., November 14th every year is celebrated as Children`s Day or Bal Diwas in India to commemorate the birthday of our Former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as a day of fun and frolic, a celebration of childhood, children and Nehruji`s love for them.  He was the beloved of all the children who gave him the endearing name of “Chacha Nehru”.

Schools celebrate this day by organizing cultural programmes and teachers perform songs and dances for their students. Therefore “Children`s Day” is special. I am posting this special recipe for all the kids around the world as this chaat is very healthy as it is prepared using fresh vegetables and it is also spicy, tangy and tasty. Let`s go thru this YUMMY BHEL PURI CHAAT-

Ingredients:

Bhel (puffed rice)                           3 cups

Red chili powder                            1 1/2 tsp

Tomato (finely chopped)             ½ cup

Onion (finely chopped)                ½ cup

Cucumber (finely chopped)       ½ cup

Coriander leaves                            ½ cup

Sev                                                       1 cup

Chat masala                                      1 ½ tsp

Lime juice                                         1 tbsp

Salt to taste

For dates and tamarind chutney:

Dates                                                  6

Tamarind                                          lemon-sized

For garnish:

Coriander leaves                            2 tbsp

Sev                                                       2 tbsp

Lime                                                   ½ pieces

Procedure for preparing Bhel Puri Chaat:

For preparing Dates and Tamarind Chutney:

Soak dates and tamarind in ½ cup of water for ½ hour and extract the thick pulp. Sweet and Sour Chutney are ready.

For preparing Bhel Puri Chaat:

  1. In a bowl, add bhel (puffed rice) and add to it red chillies powder, finely chopped onions, finely chopped cucumber, finely chopped tomato pieces and finely chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
  2. Add to it 5 tsp of sweet and sour chutney and 1 tsp of chat masala and mix well.
  3. Add 1 cup of sev and 1 tbsp of lime juice and mix well.
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves, sev and lime piece.

Tasty, spicy, healthy and tangy Bhel Puri Chaat is ready. Serve it immediately or it turns soggy.
