Sri-Rama-NavamiSri Rama Navami is the festival celebrating the birth of Lord Rama who is remembered as righteous and mighty king and an incarnation of God on earth to fight the evil. It occurs on the ninth day (Navami) of the Chaitra month (the first month according to Hindu calendar). Lord Rama was the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

A continuous recital of the holy Ramayana takes place during the month Chaitra prior to the celebrations. On Sri Rama Navami the Holy Ramayana is recited in the temple.

The celebrations at key places associated with Sri Rama Navami, such as Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, Ramesvaram in Tamil Nadu and Bhadrachalam in Telangana attract thousands of devotees which is celebrated with immense enthusiasm.

Some devotees of Lord Rama observe fast on this day and restrict themselves to specific diet. In our Sri Rama Navami recipes section we have given some traditional recipes both from South and North India. In South devotees prepare Panakam, Vada Pappu, Chalimidi and offer this as Neivedyam for Lord Rama.

In North devotees of Lord Rama usually observe fast or vrat on this day and restrict themselves to specific diet.
