TOMATO CHUTNEY WITHOUT COCONUT – SIDE DISH FOR IDLI AND DOSA

Chutney varieties

Tomato Chutney is a delicious recipe prepared as side dish for idli and dosa.

Ingredients:

Onion                                                    1

Tomatoes                                            4 – 5

Red chilli powder                             1 tsp

Oil                                                           1 tsp

Water                                                   ½ cup

Salt to taste

For seasoning:

Oil                                                           1 tsp

Mustard seeds                                  ½ tsp

Curry leaves                                       1 strand

For garnishing:

Coriander leaves                              few

Method:

  1. Chop the onion and tomatoes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add chopped onion and fry until transparent and then add red chilli powder and salt and sauté for ½ a minute. Add tomato pieces and cook till it turns soft. Cool it and grind into a smooth paste.
  3. In a pan heat 1tsp of oil, add mustards seeds and curry leaves when it splutters add the ground tomato paste with ½ cup of water and stir well. Cook till the tomato chutney starts bubbling, stir well and put off the flame. Transfer tomato chutney into serving bowl.
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve it with idli or dosa.
