Ribbon pakoda is an easy south Indian snack made during Diwali and its also a great tea time snack.

Ingredients :

3 cups    Besan

1 cup      Rice flour

2 tbsp     Sesame seeds

3 tbsp     Hot oil

2 tsb       Red chilli powder

2              Green chillies

½ inch     Ginger piece

4               Cloves of garlic

2               Strands of curry leaves

¼ tsp       Hing (asafoetida)

Salt to taste

Oil for deep frying.

Method:

  1. Sieve besan and rice flour.
  2. Add red chilli powder, salt, hing, sesame seeds to the sieved mixture.
  3. Grind to a very fine paste of green chillies, curry leaves, ginger and garlic. Add the paste to mixture and also add hot oil to the mixture.
  4. Add water in small quantity and make soft stiff dough. Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying.
  5. Take some of the dough in a muruku press using a long slit disc. Press directly in the oil in circular motion. Do not overlap. Fry on medium heat until golden brown.
  6. Drain in a tissue paper.
  7. Allow it to cool and then store in a air tight container.
