Vinayaka Chaturthi is one of important Hindu festival celebrated throughout India with a great devotion. Vinayaka Chaturthi is also known as Ganesh Chaturthi.
Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh, the elephant-headed son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. Lord Ganesh is the symbol of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. People bring idols of Lord Ganesh to their homes and business establishments and worship.
The duration of this festival varies from 1 day to 11 days. On the last day of the festival the idol are taken out in a procession where people sing and dance praising about Lord Ganesh and finally immerse the idol traditionally in water.
Lord Ganesha is worshipped prior to all Hindu Gods. His name is repeated before starting any work and is believed to be very fortunate and propitious.
As Hindu mythology Lord Ganesha is considered as “Vigana Harta” (one who removes obstacles) and “Buddhi Pradaayaka” (one who grants intelligence).
This festival is very important for students; they worship Lord Ganesha to illumine their minds.
During these 11 days of Vinayaka Chaturthi people perform puja to Lord Ganesha early in the morning and late in the evening reciting the bhajans and special Neivaidyam is offered to Lord Ganesha which is distributed to all after the puja.
